The princess of roses – David Austin’s ‘Evelyn’ rose

by Jules

‘Evelyn’ (‘Aussaucer’) rose by David Austin would have to be one of my favourite roses and not just because it shares the same name as my daughter! It was named on behalf of “Crabtree & Evelyn” as they used the exquisite fragrance in their rose perfumes, soaps, and lotions.  ‘Evelyn’ is one of the ‘old roses’ before the hybrids , its delightfully apricot sometimes tinged pink petals are intricate and tightly woven like a well spun spiders web. The buds are the size of saucers and it has the most amazing sweet and intense perfume. Its repeat flowering and great for warmer climates like NZ.
